Teri Brown

For over two decades, Teri has practiced as a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Ohio and Illinois, respectively. At the beginning of 2016, she relocated from Chicago, Illinois to bring her skill set and expertise to these rapidly expanding organizations.

Teri holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling, with an emphasis on social service agencies and clinical mental health. Teri also brings several years of crisis intervention experience with trauma survivors of all ages. She has acted as a social worker, sexual and domestic violence crisis counselor, mental health therapist, advocate and community activist.

Past and present professional work environments include state and city run agencies; penal institutions; adolescent group homes; hospitals; and several years of counseling children and families through nonprofit agencies. Teri’s current goal is to assist in the mission to help close the mental health gap by joining the Street Medicine Kansas City and CAVU Counseling teams in order to provide much needed services to the marginalized, underserved and uninsured residents within the Kansas City metro area.

Leslie A. Abbey, LSCSW

Leslie has been in Social Services full time for over 30 years, providing psychotherapy for innumerable adolescents and adults in a variety of settings.  She is positively passionate about providing compassionate care and inspiring others to live their lives to their fullest potential.
Leslie received her Master’s in Social Work in 1987, going on to qualify for her Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) certification.  She has specialized in adolescents and adults who have been emotionally, sexually, or physically abused as well as addictions, depression, and anxiety.  She has been a certified Sex Addiction therapist since 2004, a certified EMDR therapist since the 90’s and has been a certified Brainspotting therapist since 2010 (EMDR and Brainspotting are types of therapy clinically proven to be effective).
Her belief that everyone deserves a life free of mental illness and pain has guided her to co-found IMKC (Inspired Minds Kansas City, a non-profit organization) in order to provide quality services to the underprivileged and undeserved in the inner city.
